Just
a few kilometres away from Goa's capital Panaji, charming Candolim is a
canvas of quite a few bright shades. An unknown beach till a few years back,
Candolim now draws tourists in large numbers. A straight beach without the
perennial beach curves, the scrub-covered dunes of this white sandy beach
enhances its beauty further.
Accommodation and Connectivity
One of the reasons for Candolim's popularity is the beach's proximity to
Goa's capital Panaji. The beach is at a distance of 12 kms from Panaji and
14 kms from another important town Mapusa. One can travel to Panaji and take
a 10 minutes ride to Candolim.
Candolim offers a host of beach resorts. Apart from the resorts, guest
houses are also available at different rates.
Beach Attractions
Water Sport Activities
For
those tourists who like to indulge in some water sporting activities,
Candolim Beach is a great choice. Parasailing, water skiing and wind surfing
are the favourite pastime of water sport lovers here. The fun activities
begin in the afternoon and go on till sunset. Not to be left out are
swimming, beach volleyball and water polo.
The Aguda Fort
At the very end of seven kilometre long white sandy Candolim, The Aguda
Fort is Goa's best preserved Portuguese legacy and a big hit among tourists.
Built in the year 1612 to protect the northern shores by the Portuguese, the
place has several natural springs. A church and a lighthouse are also nearer
to the place.
The Quincy Corner
A nice place where one can listen to ambient music in the midst of palm and
coconut trees. There are many nice sharks in Candolim- Bistro sun, sea-side,
pete's cafe, the oceanic and mama cecilia. All of them are away from the
crowd and sometimes nice parties are also thrown for the tourists.
The Eating Joints
Along with nice music, one can taste Goan and western delicacies at the
many restaurants of Candolim. Seafood is Goa's staple, but a few other
dishes including vegetarian ones may also be tried out.
Once a mere picnic spot for Panaji residents, Candolim has remarkably
transformed into an ideal beach for holidaying.
